Still working my way throught the wonderful world of Web 2.0. Podcasts are another example of something I don't get. I suppose if I were listening to one in the car on while doing the dishes it would make sense. But am I supposed to sit at my desk and listen to one? Can't work while I do. Every minute of charming chatter between guest and host makes me want to slap the computer. No thanks.

And we would never want you to slap your computer around. But the question we may soon be faced with is -- will the library be the center in the University that will be in charge of making podcasts (of lectures, presentations, etc.) discoverable and obtainable, and be responsible for archiving them? We'll have to know what heck they're talking about before we can think about whether we want to be responsible for them.
I've never really gotten podcasts either. I can find things that seem interesting easily enough, but I don't sync up my mp3 player often enough, so they're always out of date when I'm actually in the car or doing the dishes.
But podcasts were the first web 2.0 thing that my husband really "got" -- I think it's because he's a longtime radio person. He has always listened to the radio while doing all kinds of things, where I've always been more likely to put on music or a movie.
So for him, podcasts are a way to listen to the stuff he listened to before more conveniently -- and a way to listen to a lot *more* stuff. First thing every morning he syncs up his device for fresh content.
I think that's often the way with this kind of stuff - if it helps me do what I do anyway better, or in new ways, I use it. Otherwise, it's usually not for me.
